Top Five Stories For the Week!

Here are the TOP FIVE news stories for the week of the 13th of September till the 19th of Spetember:


1. Oprah is coming down under


OPRAH Winfrey sent 300 audience members in her Chicago studio into a frenzy after the US talk show queen announced she was flying them to Australia for an eight-day adventure. "We're going to Australia, we're going to Australia!'' Winfrey told the audience.
To help break the news, Winfrey recruited longtime Qantas ambassador, Hollywood star and pilot John Travolta. During her Australian visit Winfrey will film several episodes of her talkshow, including at the Sydney Opera House on December 14, when the iconic building will be transformed into the Sydney "Oprah" House.

2. Jothnathan Thurston arrested in Brisbane


Thurston was  arrested for drunk and disorderly behaviour in Brisbane's CBD. North Queensland Cowboys skipper Thurston and another man were arrested about 4.15am (AEST) today for disorderly behaviour. Just another blunder for the NRL, where one of the greats is caught acting like drunken school boy.


3. Socceroo Craig Moore arrseted in Dubai

Craig Moore has been releasedon bail in Dubai but has at least a two-day wait before fronting a court over an alleged alcohol-related offence.  Moore, 34, who retired after the 2010 World Cup, was arrested on Wednesday after an alleged drunken altercation with police in the Persian Gulf emirate, which is known for its tough penal system. He will have to wait until Sunday to face court because the Dubai judiciary does not usually operate on Friday, a Muslim holy day.

4. Drought over, but here come the locusts.

Even though Austrlain crops have had their best winter yet, earning $2.8 billion in NSW. NSW Primary Industries Minister Steve Whan says the "terrific" rain since the start of 2010, including the wettest August in seven years.  
But locusts could still dash hopes, he said. Weather conditions during harvest time would also dictate yields.
"We're looking at the worst (locust) plague in 30 years so ... I guess it's biblical proportions when we talk about pests." There are set to destroy what could have been the best crops in years.

5. Britt's parents return to Dubrovnik.

The parents of backpacker Britt Lapthorne say they cannot stop their for justice and have vowed to return each year to the place where she died. Dale and Elke Lapthorne spoke on Friday from popular Croatian holiday spot Dubrovnik on the eve of the second anniversary of their 21-year-old daughter's disappearance.
The Victorian student vanished from a popular Dubrovnik nightclub in the early hours of September 18, 2008 while out partying with friends. Her body was found in a nearby bay 18 days later by local fishermen.
Mr Lapthorne said while the Croatian police had not closed the case, it was lying dormant.
